Coach Bloomquist and the Chargers managed to win their 10th straight with a 68–40 victory over Topeka High that clinched the outright Centennial League title Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021.
In my first game back at my alma mater since the Covid-19 Pandemic I was ecstatic to see my former coach back in action. Coach Bloomquist allowed me to be his manager for my last 3 years of high school. Being his manager truly has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my young life. In previous years I try to attend a few games and practices to take photographs of him and his team but with the pandemic I have been far limited on what I can cover.
Bloomquist, 66, also announced after the game that he had Stage 3 squamous cell carcinoma in his lymph nodes and neck. Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common form of skin cancer. First reported by Rick Peterson at Top Sports News.
